Hear more stories behind the breakthrough
“Think of the kids” – The vision that changed children’s health in WA.
What began as a simple idea to create a dedicated medical research centre for children’s health became reality in 1990, when WA’s first child health institute was launched.
The Kids Research Institute was founded to put children at the centre of medical discovery. Led by Founding Director Professor Fiona Stanley AC and Founding Chair Professor Louis Landau AO, it became WA’s first dedicated child health research institute, bringing basic scientists, clinical researchers and epidemiologists together under one roof.
Over 35 years, that vision has driven breakthroughs that prevent disease, improve treatments and give children the chance to have brighter, healthier futures.
Watch Fiona Stanley and Richard Goyder share how it all began.
